Sudan is among the eight main exporters of sesame seeds worldwide, was the world-leading exporter in 2004 and ranks second in area cultivated.
Sesame seeds are used in cooking for their rich nutty flavor, for extracting their oil yields and in many medical purposes.
Sesame is an ancient oil crop supplying seed for confectionary purpose and edible oil, paste (Tahina) cake and flour.
Sesame has important agricultural attributes. It is adapted to tropical and temperate conditions, grows well on stored soil moisture with minimal irrigation or rainfall and can produce good yield under high temperature.
Sudan produces a large percentage of the world total annual exports. Sesame in the Sudan is raise almost entirely under rain fed conditions, mainly in the South-ern Kordofan , Kasala , white and blue Nile states.

3.Tahini – a traditional Middle Eastern Sesame paste.
4.Dip and spread manufacturers – add ingredients such as chickpeas and eggplant to Tahini and call the product Homus and Baba Gnnouj

6.Halva industry – Halva is a popular sweet made by mixing approximately 50% Tahini with boiled wiped sugar and other ingredients
